Course Sections Overview
Sections are containers of information under each course that reflects: the assigned primary teacher, the days/terms and period(s) that the course meets, the room number, and the Team assignment.
Every course in Infinite Campus must have a section created for it to be assigned to a student’s schedule. By accessing the sections in IC, users can drill down to see the assigned roster of students and their attendance in the course.
To view a list of courses and sections for a particular school/year, use the ‘Course/Section’ search option. Users can specify the name of a course to search for, or simply click the search icon (magnifying glass) and pull up all the courses available at the school.
Courses will display with the course number – course name – grade level. In this example we can see ‘002000 Math K’.
Click the plus sign (+) next to the course name to view the sections for each course.
Sections will display with the section number – primary teacher name. In this example we can see section 1 is assigned to Ms. Masters and section 2 is assigned to Ms. Vanhouten.
Users can click on the section in the search results to view the ‘Section Information’ screen. It can also be found by following this path: Main Menu > Scheduling & Courses > Courses > Section Information or by doing a ‘Tool’ search.
For middle school and high school, how a section is numbered or labeled is determined by the scheduling staff. However, section numbering in an elementary school is uniform across the District. All section numbers in elementary schools are assigned based on the grade level and the type of students served. Look at the section titled ‘Elementary School Scheduling’ to view a chart on numbering elementary school sections.
