Modifying a Behavior Events

One of the primary goals of data and information management is to gather and record data in a manner that most accurately reflects the actuality of the occurrence. In the case of behavior management, this means collecting multiple points of data that represent the incident, event and any resolutions assigned to the event.

While most referrals are submitted complete and accurate, the behavior referral tool cannot prevent a referrer from making an error upon submission. Behavior events, incidents and resolutions may need modified after the initial entry. Keep the following tips in mind before modifying the resolution:

  • Editing the resolution start date, resolution start time, resolution end date, and/or resolution end time will impact the student’s attendance.

  • View the student’s attendance to verify that it accurately reflects the dates and times the student was absent.

  • If a Resolution was entered as a hearing, when the disposition has been decided (Suspension, PEAK, etc.) ADD a second Resolution to reflect the outcome of the Hearing.  The original Hearing Resolution should remain.

  • If a hearing was entered, and a suspension is being added that will start when the removal started, be sure to select OSS, check for attendance conflicts, overwrite existing attendance, and click save when entering the resolution.

Possible circumstances that would require a resolution to be edited:

  • Student arrived late or left early during an in-school suspension (ISS).

  • Student is on a multiple day suspension and returns to school prior to the suspension end date.

    • Example: If a student has been suspended or 5 days, but returns to school the seconds day, the administrator could allow the student to stay for the day and finish the remainder of their suspension the following day.  If this occurs, the behavior admin would need to modify the end date and time on the initial OSS resolution and add a second OSS resolution for the remaining days to be served.

To edit Behavior Data:

  • Search for the Incident to edit by using the steps for Opening Existing Behavior Records.

  • Click the Incident Title - The Incident Details will open.

  • Click the Event, Participant and/or Resolution to be modified.

  • When corrections are made, please remember you must add a comment of: "Corrected per _______ (corrector name) (date)" to the details field.
