Grade Book - Assignments


Creating Assignments

Verify the Term, Section, and Task where you want the Assignment added.

  1. Click Add to add an assignment

2. Enter the assignment's name and abbreviation. The abbreviation will be displayed in the Grade Book.

3. If the assignment is not ready to be made active, mark the Draft checkbox. This will change which fields are required at this time in order to save the assignment. Draft status will make the assignment only accessible via the Assignment List and Planner. It will not be included in grade totals or displayed in Campus Student or the Portal. When the assignment is ready to be added to the Grade Book, unmark the Draft checkbox. Please note that this option is only available for schools that are using Campus Learning. 



4. Select which section(s) will get this assignment from the Scheduling/Grading Alignment section.

Additional sections can be added by clicking the Add/Remove button.

5. Indicate whether or not the assignment should be displayed in Campus Student or the Portal using the Portal checkbox.

6. Enter the date the assignment will be assigned in the Assigned field.

7. Enter the assignment due date in the Due field.

8. Enter the desired sequence in which the assignment should be displayed in the Grade Book.

9. If applicable, select the group to whom the assignment should be assigned in the Student Group drop down list.

10.  Select the category to which the assignment should be aligned.

11.  If the assignment should count towards in progress grade calculations, leave the Include in Grade Calculation checkbox marked.

12.  From the Standard/Grading Task drop down, select the grading task or standard to which the assignment should be aligned.

  • All grading tasks and standards that are shared by the selected sections above display.

  • If available, multiple standards and grading tasks may be added and scored separately. 

13.  Select the scoring type for the assignment.

Points - The assignment is scored numerically.

Marks - The assignment is scored in predetermined Marks (Example A, B, C) using grading thresholds set up in the Assignment Marks tool.

Rubric - The assignment is scored in predetermined values. These values will pull from the rubric assigned to the standard in the Standards Bank.


Enter the Total Points possible.  The Multiplier determines how the assignment affects the students’ grades.  For example, a 50 point assignment with a Multiplier of 2 counts as a 100 point assignment.

14.  To include additional information and content for students, expand the For Students editor.

15.  Enter text into the Student Instructions field that display to students in Campus Student or Portal.

16.  Teachers can make additional content available to students. Information about these options can be found on the Campus Community.

File Attachment - If the district/school is using the Campus Digital Repository, files may be attached to the assignment for student access by selecting File Attachment. Students will be able to download the files via the Campus Student or the Portal.

Google Drive File - Allows teachers to attach a Google Drive file.

Online Assessment - Gives users the option to allow students to complete an assessment via the Portal. 

Student Submission - Allows students to submit the assignment by entering text into a text field, uploading a file or attaching a Google Drive file.

17.  To include additional information and content intended for teacher use, expand the For Teachers editor.

18.  Enter text into the Teacher Notes field to add assignment-related notes for any teachers that may use the assignment. Students and parents will not see these notes from their accounts.

19.  Teacher-use only content may be added using the File Attachment or Google Drive File.

20.  If the assignment is part of a unit or lesson plan, select the unit/plan in the Unit/Lesson Plan list.

21.  If desired, select the desired curriculum tags to attach to the assignment. This allows the assignment to be searched for and located for reuse in the future.

Standards - Select the standards that are aligned to this assignment.

Grade Levels - Select the grade level(s) to which this assignment applies in the drop down list.

Depth of Knowledge - Select the appropriate level in the drop down list.

Tags - Search for the desired tag to be attached to the assignment

22.  When finished, click Save

To immediately score the assignment, select Score

Once saved, the assignment may be printed as a PDF by clicking Print

To add another assignment, click New Assignment.

To copy the assignment, click Copy.

To return to the Assignments List, click Close.






Grading Assignments

  • Click the chevron symbol to the right of the assignment abbreviation or within the score grid to expand the detail information for that assignment.  **Click the blue Assignment Name link (or the blue Assignment Name link abbreviation when the assignment is collapsed) to open the assignment where modifications can be made.

  • Enter the score in the first column.
  • Comments can be entered regarding the student’s score on the assignment.
  • The assignment can be marked as follows:
    • T=Turned In (assignment will display as due in the portal unless marked as turned in);
    • M=Missing (counts as a 0 even if a score is entered);
      • There is a Missing Grades Report and Class Messenger if the M is utilized
    • L=Late; I=Incomplete;
    • Ch=Cheated (counts as 0 even if a score is entered;
    • X for Exempt (the assignment will not calculate into the student’s grade);
    • Dr=Dropped (the assignment will not calculate into the student’s grade).
  • Click Save

Note: You can also use the blue link at the top right corner to fill in comments and grades for multiple students at once.
