  1. My IP address is not showing on my Desktop. How do I get it to display?
    1. Follow this link: C:\WINDOWS\BGInfo and run bginfo.bat
  2. If I don't have the BGInfo folder(to show my I.P. address in top right-hand corner of screen), where else can I find a hostname or I.P. address?
    1. Log off your P.C. (DO NOT RESTART), click on the right arrow on the 3rd row that states the domain, a pull down menu will appear and a series of letter and numbers combination will appear, this will be the Hostname ex:KDA8C7BQC2
  3. Is my email password the same as my computer login password?
    1. Yes
  4. What is the difference between log off and restart?
    1. Log off closes out all items open and takes you back to sign in screen. It looks like you are restarting but really the computer is signing you off your profile. Restart shuts down your computer completely and restarts it on its own.
  5. Why can't I save documents to my desktop?
    1. Though the system will allow users to save documents to their desktop, there is no guarantee the documents will show up again after a reboot. Since Provisioned computers gain all of their formatting information every time they reboot anything not saved to a backed up drive could be deleted when the computer shuts down.
  6. Windows is prompting me to change my password. How often will this happen?
    1. The password will prompt to be changed every 90 days.
  7. Windows is prompting me to change my password. What are the new password criteria?
    1. The password must be at least 8 characters long or longer, it must contain and upper case letter, a lower case letter and at least 1 number.
  8. I have problems coming up with unique passwords. Is there a method I can use that works?
    1. If you have your password in the following format "Favoriteword1", you can change the password by adding a different number to the end of the password each time you change it.
  9. I am new to the District, what is the process for getting my username and password for the computer?
    1. Once you have all information in at Human Resources, your information will be moved to the Personnel file. Once the information is moved to the Personnel file, a process will create your username and password. A letter will be sent to your location instructing you how to retrieve this information by signing the Acceptable Use Policy.
  10. I have recently change buildings. How can I have my permissions changed?
    1. Go to the main webpage. www.columbus.k12.oh.us and go to staff, then resources. Go to information technology online documents and there will be a change request form. Filling this out will allow permission changes.
