Blocker Course List

There should be no empty gaps in your students' schedules.  We have created many blocker courses for your use to fill periods on your schedule when students are not in regular academic courses.  These course numbers start with an "N" and should already be loaded on your course deck for your use.  There are several 'blocker' courses listed below that can be used to denote where the student is during the course of the school day when not in a traditional classroom setting.

These blocker courses are available to use in every school; however, the course may need to have sections added before students can be scheduled.

Non-Instruction courses that require attendance to be taken every school day.

NO SHOW

This is a blocker course for students who have not shown up to school but were expected to. Create a section of this course to span the entire school day, and enroll students into this course for attendance taking. This will take students off teacher rosters and will give you an accurate reflection of available seats. In addition, it will provide more accurate lists of teachers with high D/F or U rates at interim. When end-dating the original courses the students were enrolled in, use the current date. When enrolling in the NO SHOW course, use the next school day.

LOCATED NOT ATTENDING

This is a blocker course for students who have not shown up to school but were expected to.  This is to be used instead of the NO SHOW blocker course (N90130) only for students who have been located but are not attending school.  This will take students off teacher rosters and will give you an accurate reflection of available seats. In addition, it will provide more accurate lists of teachers with high D/F or U rates at interim.  When end-dating the original courses the students were  enrolled in, use the current date.  When enrolling students in LOCATED NOT ATTENDING, use the next school day.  REMINDER:  School staff should make every effort to re-engage the students to try and get them back in school.

USAGE:

Create a section of this course to span the  entire school day, and enroll students into this course for attendance taking. Students in this course must be marked absent every day.  If a student shows up to school, they must be given an academic schedule and their enrollment in this course must be end-dated.

N/A

This blocker course should be used at schools with ELEMENTARY grade levels ONLY.  Because of the nature of Elementary schedules, not all students will have a course in every designated period.  For example, a first grade student will generally not be in a Chorus or Instrumental Music class, thereby leaving gaps in the schedule for the CH and IM periods.  This course should be used to fill those gaps, as those periods are not applicable (N/A) for that student.  This is a non-attendance course, as it is to be used only in non-instructional periods on the Elementary schedules.
