Instructional Assistants (IAs)

Instructional Assistants are considered to be Classified employees. For the most part they work in the classrooms assisting teachers with instruction, but they could also work in the library, as a interpreter for the child, parent or teaching staff, or even in a general capacity assisting with the needs of the school. Instructional Assistants are broken down into different families which limit the reorganizations which can take place during displacements. The family groupings are as folllows:

Family 1

Media Aides

Library Learning Center

Computer Assistant Pilot Program

Family 2

Peak

General Fund

Grade Level Assistants

Discipline

Crossing Guard

Individually Guided Education

Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten

In the event of an Instructional Assistant position being eliminated, when deciding who should be displaced, displacements first take place based on seniority at the building level, then at the district level. Each year, Instructional Assistants also have the option of displacing themselves and going to job fair.
