Options for Success in Lieu of Suspension Behavior Entry - DELETE

With recent changes, administrators are now able to work with students, families, and their respective executive director to create the opportunity of an alternative educational setting at Options for Success without needing to recommend a student for expulsion. There have been many questions regarding the proper process for documenting this opportunity. Please find examples below that will help guide this process.

Example 1) Student Removed from School - locked Hearing (Student Removal): If there is a need to carry out an emergency removal of a student from the educational setting because the student is a safety risk to themselves or others, the school may do so by documenting a behavior event in the Infinite Campus Behavior Management module and assigning a resolution of “32 PBIS-Hearing (student removal).” The district may remove the student from school without instruction for up to three days while waiting for the hearing. The Infinite Campus Behavior Management module needs to be utilized to record the Attendance Code “RMV” Removal. The start date and time should be the day and time at which the student was removed from the educational setting and the end date and end time should be the date and time of the scheduled hearing. THIS ACTION IS TO BE COMPLETED BY THE APPROPRIATE PERSONNEL AT THE STUDENT’S CURRENT SCHOOL OF ENROLLMENT.

  • Document the Behavior event in the Infinite Campus Behavior Management module and assign a resolution of "32 PBIS-Hearing (student removal)" (To be entered by the appropriate personnel at the school.)

Example 2) Student is not Removed from School - ***Hearing (Non-Removal): In this case you would follow the same steps outlined above, except, it is not necessary to enter a Resolution start and end date and time since the student was not removed from the educational setting prior to the hearing with Parent.

  1.  If the decision to utilize Options for Success is determined during the parent conference, the Principal contacts the Executive Director requesting approval for the student to attend Options for Success.

      2.  Upon approval, Principal will complete the Options for Success Enrollment and Transportation form and submits via email to Options for Success per the directions listed on the bottom of the form.

      3.  Options for Success Supervisor checks the Division Seat Availability.

                   a.   If the Division has availability, the Options for Success supervisor forwards the completed Options for Success Enrollment and Transportation request to the secretary via email with the following in the body of the email "Approved for Options for                                       Success".

                   b.   If the Division does not have seat availability, the Options for Success Supervisor contacts the Executive Director to see if they would like to borrow a seat from a fellow Executive Director or wait for availability.

                          i.  If the Executive Director is borrowing a seat, the Options for Success supervisor forwards the completed Options for Success Enrollment and Transportation request to the secretary via email with the following in the body of the email "Approved for                                  Options for Success"

ii.  If the Executive Director is not borrowing a seat, the Options for Success supervisor contacts the Principal to inform them that there are no available seats at this time and to work with the Executive Director.

      4.  Options for Success Supervisor sends confirmation email to principal.  This email reminds the Principal of the three (3) day waiting period for transportation (unless parent is providing transportation), advises Principal to have the parent/guardian

call for orientation, and informs the Principal that the Options for Success secretary will contact the school secretary, via email, with the Options for Success Start and End dates for the student.

      5.  Once transportation has been established; the information will also be available in Versatrans.  This information will be communicated to the family during the scheduled orientation.  If the parent is unable to provide transportation

for the three (3) day wait period, the student is permitted to attend school for that time period.   If the student does not attend school the absence is deemed unexcused.  Do not use Attendance Code "Transportation Wait Period (TWP)".

      6.  The Options for Success secretary enters a secondary enrollment for the student, schedules the student at Options for Success, uploads all documents to the student's document tab, and emails the home school Secretary with the student's start and end dates.

      7.  Upon receipt of start and end dates, the home school scheduler will end date the student's current schedule one day prior to the Options for Success start date and schedule the student in the Options for Success blocker course with a start date that

is equal to the Options for Success enrollment start date.

The school administrator must notify the personnel responsible for scheduling at their building to ensure the student is scheduled in the Options for Success Blocker course (Course Number N 92111 OPTIONS FOR SUCCESS). This will ensure that the student is scheduled correctly, in a timely manner and prevents errors. The student must be scheduled into the Options for Success blocker course for dates that are equal to the Options for Success enrollment.  The Support Center - Scheduling

      8.  The home school will record a final resolution to the behavior event of  PBIS: Parent Contact - Parent Contact.  All relevant information regarding the Options for Success assignment must be recorded in the resolution details.

If a student fails to complete the Options for Success assignment, the home school Administrator will make the following determination:

  1.  Allow the student to return to school and resume classes.
  2. Assign a Out of School suspension for the remaining days the student did not complete the Options for Success program.  If determined the student will be assigned a Out of School Suspension a resolution must be recorded to the original behavior incident.  Out of School Suspension (OSW/OSS)
