Using Student Success Badges for Attendance

Columbus City Schools will provide each student with a CCS Success Card that acts as a student ID as well as provides students and families to additional features/access.  For information on how to access the Badge system or how to print a badge, visit the Infinite Campus Dashboard and review the page titled ‘Badge – Student Success Cards ID Software’.

CCS students will also be able to use their card as:

  • A Columbus Metropolitan Library card.

  • A login to Clever.

  • A COTA (Central Ohio Transit Authority) Bus Pass. (This is only applicable for 9th -12th grade students)

The card will also have future benefits. CCS plans to have students swipe the card when entering or exiting a CCS school bus.  This will provide real time student ridership information to both district personnel and parents/guardians.

CCS will also utilize the Student Success Badges to increase the efficiency of the attendance data collection process.  Secondary (NOT Elementary Schools) schools will have students arriving late to school or leaving early swipe in/out using their badges.

When students enter school late, it causes delays, congesting hallways and disrupting classes. Having students use their badges for tardies will reduce the loss of instructional time and decrease the density of students during late arrival to school.

Kiosks will be stationed at the entrance of our school buildings to allow students to swipe in and out of the building. Schools will have a kiosk (device), wireless number pad, and a printer for the student passes.

Attendance Kiosk

Students who do not have their ID badge can type their student number into the kiosk using the keypad.

A staff member with attendance tool rights can also enter student ID numbers manually using the Check In/Out tool in Infinite Campus. This information is automatically sent to a printer and a hall pass will print for the student.

An alert will sound when a student triggers a Stop or Warn scan message, or if the scanned student number is not valid.  Scan prevention gives schools the ability to configure behavior resolutions to add warnings to stop a student from scanning in if the student was not supposed to be in attendance due to behavior.

Once the student’s information has been entered either via scan or manual entry, attendance staff will process the entries using the Absence Request Processing tool.  This will allow attendance staff to process students individually or grouped with other students. The attendance staff member will enter in the attendance code and comment for the student.

Students Checking In/Out Using the Kiosk

Students will check in/out using the kiosk. Upon arrival they will see the screen below on the kiosk.

Students can scan their badge for input or enter their student ID number. Once entered it will take them to the next screen. There are two choices for the student to select, Late Bus or Tardy Unexcused. The student will make the selection to be taken to the next screen to confirm.

For Tardy Unexcused:

The student will click Confirm and a Success message will appear before the kiosk resets itself. A pass to class will be printed for the student.

For a Late Bus:

The student will click Confirm and a Success message will appear before the kiosk resets itself. A pass to class will be printed for the student.

An image of the Success message is shown below.
